Ratites should have access to
fresh, clean water at all times.
Provide free choice pullet size
grit at all times, as a source of grinding, to aid in feed digestion.
The amino acids methionine and
cystine are particularly important in bone development of Ratites.
By using blended rations containing a variety of proteins, such
as are found in Silver Moon feeds, a better nutritional balanced
is achieved.
The Ratite industry is relatively
young, and because of this, less research on Ratite nutrition
and care has been performed. This increases the need for good
management and careful observation of birds.
At the present time, no antibiotics
or drugs have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration
for use in feeding Ratites. While some drugs may perhaps be safe
to use, research and clinical trials have not been done to establish
the effectiveness of the products, and consequently, there are
no current federal clearances.
In summary, Ratites need good
care and management, good feed, water, and close attention - in
other words, "TLC" - tender loving care.
